Landscape structure vision

In close collaboration with SAB Amsterdam, Brons + partners landscape architects has been working for the municipality of Bergen on a Landscape Structure Vision. Landscape and natural qualities of the countryside of Bergen, together with the desired functional development, are taken into account.

Landscape Conference
Prior to the drawing of the vision, approximately one hundred and eighty participants worked together to the basis of the vision of the rural area of Bergen until 2020, during a three-day landscape conference. This interactive approach is unique in The Netherlands: citizens and other stakeholders together determine the basis for the vision in an open and participatory planning process.

Prelude to the vision
The Landscape Structure Vision for the rural municipality of Bergen includes a readable culture heritage landscape. Bergen means sea, dunes and polders. An agricultural landscape, where the wind is always present. The countryside of Bergen is multifaceted and versatile. The inner dunes form the transition between the dunes and the polders and create a beautiful backdrop of a tough, green corridor from north to south. Unique for this rural area is that the built environment is largely surrounded by a multitude of plants. As a consequence, the absorption capacity for the built environment and traffic movements is large, which is a unique quality. The main objective of the vision of Brons + partners is to preserve the identity of the relief-rich inner dunes and the open, flat polders in a sustainable way. In this way, the polder will stay agrarian domain for dairy farming and flower bulbs.
