A dike improvement plan has been created by Waternet during the last two years. From the beginning there was a lot of resistance against this plan because of the proposed removal of about 4500 trees.
Through good communication, with Brons + partners as intermediate, it has been accomplished that only 200 trees need to be cut. Different workgroups, in which inhabitants and other stakeholders participated, made their contribution to this communication.
At least 150 trees can be replanted along the dike, the other 50 will be replanted on other locations in the surroundings of the dike. These replanting is only possible due to the maintenance of plants, described in a maintenance plan.
