Greenstructure of Zaanstad

The municipality of Zaanstad, a city situated north of Amsterdam, considers the quality of the built environment as very important. Currently, a neighborhood-based approach is implemented, as the sewage system is going to be replaced on a neighborhood-scale. Together with this replacement, the public space will also be renewed. The overall goal of this project has been to draw a (revised) vision for the green structure of all the neighborhoods concerned.

Brons + partners landscape architects is, via a secondment, asked to draw these visions for the green structures, in collaboration with several sectors of the municipality. The visions and redevelopment plans are communicated with inhabitants during soundboard meetings and information evenings.

The design of the public space and the urban design within the municipality is divers and is summarized as Zaans Mosaic. This term refers to the diversity and small-scale identity of the different neighborhoods. Almost all neighborhoods have their own identity, attracting specific target groups. The goal of all the visions is to improve the green structure both in a qualitative and in a quantitative way.
