Design square Rijsenburg

The square at the main church in Rijsenburg is an important part of the historic core of the village. Elements for the balanced new development of the square are cultural heritage, monumental values and contemporary functions. On behalf of the municipality Utrechtse Heuvelrug, Brons + partners landscape architects has drawn a redevelopment vision and a design for this square.

The history of the square leads to the conclusion that this particular place requires a simple and clear structure. The proposed design brings back the simplicity of the square, offering a meeting place for pedestrians and leaving the car only as a temporary guest. The simplicity is expressed in the small amount of used materials: characteristic elements like brick pavement, 'ijsseltjes', half hardening and ashlar are the main materials for the square.

Currently we are working on the specification drawings and a detailed design for the stone band. Carved in this band, the history of the square is revealed in small texts.
